What is GIFT City?
GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) is India’s first operational International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), developed as a world-class financial hub to rival global counterparts like Dubai, Singapore, and London.
It is developed as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to facilitate cross-border financial services in foreign currency. Notified in 2015 under SEZ regulations, GIFT City offers state-of-the-art infrastructure and a globally competitive ecosystem for financial institutions.
With the launch of India INX (BSE) and NSE IFSC, GIFT City introduced 22-hour trading in equity derivatives, global stocks, and ETFs in USD—attracting NRIs, FPIs, and offshore investors with significant tax and regulatory advantages.
In 2023, the NSE IFSC-SGX Connect was introduced, enabling SGX clients to trade Nifty derivatives directly on NSE IFSC. This move brought global trading volumes back to Indian-regulated platforms, reinforcing GIFT City’s role as a credible, strategic hub for international finance.
